Detail

Discover the world Famous Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye Scotland tours departing from Inverness. Embark on a captivating journey to The Misty Isle to visit the world famous Fairy Pools, where the water is emerald green and crystal clear, unveiling the beauty of Eilean a’ Cheò, one of the most picturesque Hebridean Islands in the Highlands. Departing from the capital of the Highlands, we venture to the western coast, with stops at various destinations en route, including the renowned Eilean Donan Castle, one of Scotland’s most iconic fortresses.

Our journey begins in Inverness as we follow the shores of Loch Ness, hoping to catch a glimpse of Nessie, the legendary creature. Passing Urquhart Castle which offers a panoramic view of this historic ruin and the sprawling Loch Ness, the largest body of water in the UK by volume. Urquhart Castle, steeped in a tumultuous past, stands as a poignant symbol of the region’s history, marking a pivotal point in the oppression of the Highlands. Progressing through Invermorriston, we head towards Loch Claunie, continuing along Glen Shiel, the site of the historic Battle of Glen Shiel in June 1719.

Short Stop at Eilean Donan Castle (Caisteal Eilean Donnain)

Situated amidst the serene waters of Loch Duich, Eilean Donan Castle graces a small isle where three lochs converge: Alsh, Duich, and Long. Named in honor of Celtic saint Donan of Eigg, this historic landmark has endured since the mid-1200s, featuring a chapel built by the saint himself. Ravaged by the Royal Navy in 1719 following a standoff with Jacobites and Spanish forces, Lt Colonel John Macrae-Gilstrap painstakingly restored the castle in the early 20th century, offering visitors a glimpse into its storied past.

The Isle of Skye

Crossing the renowned Skye bridge, constructed in 1995, we reminisce about the era when ferry services connected the mainland to the Isle of Skye since the early 1600s. Our journey then winds through the enchanting Isle of Skye, pausing at various captivating locales. While some may visit popular tourist hotspots, we also offer the flexibility to explore lesser-known gems. Before embarking on the tour, we prioritize understanding your preferences to tailor the itinerary accordingly. Whether you prefer exploring the west coast or seeking specific interests, we ensure a bespoke experience. Here are several enticing destinations to consider while exploring Skye:

  • Portree for Lunch
  • The Quiraing – Photo Stop
  • Kilt Rock – Photo Stop
  • Old Man Of Stòr – Photo Stop
  • Fairy Pools Hike – Highlight

As we return from Skye, we’ll travel along the lesser-known back road to Inverness, making a stop at the Ledgowan Lodge Hotel for a brief break. This charming establishment, once a Victorian hunting lodge, is now operated by a family.

My husband and I had high expectations for everything we wanted to see on this tour, and Ryan exceeded all of them! Ryan’s communication was top notch from the moment I booked the excursion. He allowed me to make minor adjustments to personalize our experience for what we wanted to see while visiting Isle of Skye. The journey from Inverness to the Isle of Skye seemed to go by quickly, as Ryan would frequently pull off at the best picture locations and small monuments where there was a historical story to tell. Ryan’s knowledge of the best places for lunch, sweets, coffee, etc. was the cherry on top for us. We were never in the crowds of tourists who were all trying to order food at the same time which meant there was no shortage of actual sightseeing. Not only did we have a great time visiting the landmarks, we also thoroughly enjoyed our time visiting with Ryan. With his interests in photography and history, we learned tons, got fantastic photos, and created a friendship over the course of just one day. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to see the wonders of Northern Scotland.

Booked a tour of the isle of sky with Ryan. Picked us up that morning and had an amazing day. Made sure to get us to all the highlights we asked about and some extra while telling us the history behind everywhere we went. Highly recommend.

In celebration of my daughter’s university graduation, my daughter, niece, mother and I had an amazing 4-day tour with Ryan across the highlands and into the Isle of Skye! Leading up to the trip, Ryan was super easy to communicate with and went above and beyond to plan a route that accommodated to the lack of daylight hours as we were traveling in December. Ryan was extremely friendly and kept us very entertained during the entire trip, sharing personal stories as well as endless facts and history about the areas and viewpoints we stopped at. His talent of professional level photography was an amazing plus. His expertise made sure every stop was very accommodating to our different levels of walking and hiking abilities. I would recommend Ryan with Sgurr tours to anyone! Thanks Ryan!
