Detail

Discover Isle of Skye Scotland tours departing from Inverness. Embark on a captivating journey to The Misty Isle, unveiling the beauty of Eilean a’ Cheò, one of the most picturesque Hebridean Islands in the Highlands. Departing from the capital of the Highlands, we venture to the western coast, with stops at various destinations en route, including the renowned Eilean Donan Castle, one of Scotland’s most iconic fortresses.

Our journey begins in Inverness as we follow the shores of Loch Ness, hoping to catch a glimpse of Nessie, the legendary creature. A brief stop at Urquhart Castle offers a panoramic view of this historic ruin and the sprawling Loch Ness, the largest body of water in the UK by volume. Urquhart Castle, steeped in a tumultuous past, stands as a poignant symbol of the region’s history, marking a pivotal point in the oppression of the Highlands. Progressing through Invermorriston, we head towards Loch Claunie, continuing along Glen Shiel, the site of the historic Battle of Glen Shiel in June 1719.

Eilean Donan Castle (Caisteal Eilean Donnain) Around 30 Minutes

Situated amidst the serene waters of Loch Duich, Eilean Donan Castle graces a small isle where three lochs converge: Alsh, Duich, and Long. Named in honor of Celtic saint Donan of Eigg, this historic landmark has endured since the mid-1200s, featuring a chapel built by the saint himself. Ravaged by the Royal Navy in 1719 following a standoff with Jacobites and Spanish forces, Lt Colonel John Macrae-Gilstrap painstakingly restored the castle in the early 20th century, offering visitors a glimpse into its storied past.

The Isle of Skye

Crossing the renowned Skye bridge, constructed in 1995, we reminisce about the era when ferry services connected the mainland to the Isle of Skye since the early 1600s. Our journey then winds through the enchanting Isle of Skye, pausing at various captivating locales. While some may visit popular tourist hotspots, we also offer the flexibility to explore lesser-known gems. Before embarking on the tour, we prioritize understanding your preferences to tailor the itinerary accordingly. Whether you prefer exploring the west coast or seeking specific interests, we ensure a bespoke experience. We booked an isle of skye tour. There was my wife myself and our two children ages 3 and 6. Ryan was wonderful. He was very accommodating especially to the kids and made sure all our needs were met. The tour was very personal. I recommend a tour like this much more than a big bus tour for many reasons including some of the personal touches you get like snacks and drinks or as many bathroom stops as you need, and also the way the tour can be catered to your needs. But the main reason I recommend a tour with Ryan is the incredible history lesson that you get about the area it’s people and about Scottish Gaelic history and it’s incredible language. It was an awesome tour and I highly recommend it. Thanks Ryan.

Booking a tour with Ryan was the best part of our trip. From start to finish, he was professional and accommodating, taking us to as many sights as we could fit into our schedule, going above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our dream trip visiting Skye. My husband and I were captivated by his many tales of the Highlands, all with in-depth knowledge of the area, people, and even the Gaelic language! With Ryan, we enjoyed every moment, feeling truly welcomed by Scotland. Thank you, Ryan!

Solo Traveller

Cannot recommend Ryan and Sgùrr Tours highly enough. I am not a tour person and was a bit apprehensive booking; and I am so thankful for my good decision! I learned so much past and recent history, got to practice a wee bit of Gaelic, was able to focus on enjoying the scenery because I wasn’t the one driving, and have some epic photos (which were easy to have printed and will be Christmas presents for my family). Keeping someone entertained for 12 hours (especially a solo traveler like me) is no easy task and Ryan had me enthralled with all the info and good humor shared.

If you want a private tour (you do… I saw those bus tours from Inverness – yikes) reach out to Ryan. He will make it a custom tour to your liking, and knows great places to stop for food and drink while you’re exploring. Looking forward to booking with him again in the spring for another tour of Skye (there’s so much to see) or a neighboring island.
