Detail

Discover the world Famous Old Man of Storr on the Isle of Skye Scotland tours departing from Inverness. Embark on a captivating journey to The Misty Isle to hike the world famous Old Man Of Storr, where the the views just get better and better the further you walk up into the mystical hill, unveiling the beauty of Eilean a’ Cheò, one of the most picturesque Hebridean Islands in the Highlands. Departing from the capital of the Highlands, we venture to the western coast, with stops at various destinations en route, including the renowned Eilean Donan Castle, one of Scotland’s most iconic fortresses.

Our journey begins in Inverness as we follow the shores of Loch Ness, hoping to catch a glimpse of Nessie, the legendary creature. Passing Urquhart Castle which offers a panoramic view of this historic ruin and the sprawling Loch Ness, the largest body of water in the UK by volume. Urquhart Castle, steeped in a tumultuous past, stands as a poignant symbol of the region’s history, marking a pivotal point in the oppression of the Highlands. Progressing through Invermorriston, we head towards Loch Claunie, continuing along Glen Shiel, the site of the historic Battle of Glen Shiel in June 1719.

Short Stop at Eilean Donan Castle (Caisteal Eilean Donnain)

Situated amidst the serene waters of Loch Duich, Eilean Donan Castle graces a small isle where three lochs converge: Alsh, Duich, and Long. Named in honor of Celtic saint Donan of Eigg, this historic landmark has endured since the mid-1200s, featuring a chapel built by the saint himself. Ravaged by the Royal Navy in 1719 following a standoff with Jacobites and Spanish forces, Lt Colonel John Macrae-Gilstrap painstakingly restored the castle in the early 20th century, offering visitors a glimpse into its storied past.

The Isle of Skye

Crossing the renowned Skye bridge, constructed in 1995, we reminisce about the era when ferry services connected the mainland to the Isle of Skye since the early 1600s. Our journey then winds through the enchanting Isle of Skye, pausing at various captivating locales. While some may visit popular tourist hotspots, we also offer the flexibility to explore lesser-known gems. Before embarking on the tour, we prioritize understanding your preferences to tailor the itinerary accordingly. Whether you prefer exploring the west coast or seeking specific interests, we ensure a bespoke experience. Here are several enticing destinations to consider while exploring Skye:

  • Portree for a 45 Minute Lunch break
  • The Quiraing
  • Old Man Of Stor Hike
  • Portree
  • Kilt Rock

As we return from Skye, we’ll travel along the lesser-known back road to Inverness, making a stop at the Ledgowan Lodge Hotel for a brief break. This charming establishment, once a Victorian hunting lodge, is now operated by a family.

Our tour with Ryan was perfect. Months before our tour, I approached Ryan with the idea to propose to my then-girlfriend at a scenic viewpoint along the tour. Ryan was a great partner in planning this engagement surprise, in addition to being a knowledgeable tour guide and skilled photographer. My fiance (she said yes!) and I loved learning the history of the highlands from Ryan and his stunning photos captured our special day perfectly. Highly recommend!
