Discover the full majesty of Scotland’s most famous loch on our Loch Ness Complete Loop Tour. Most visitors only see the busy northern shore. However, Sgùrr Tours takes you on a full 70-mile journey. We reveal the “hidden” wild side of the water. You will travel in the executive comfort of a Mercedes-Benz V-Class. This is a journey that few travelers ever finish.
Your day begins at 09:00 AM. First, we pick you up from your Inverness hotel. We head directly to the northern banks. Here, we explore the majesty of Urquhart Castle. This was once one of the largest strongholds in the Highlands. You will have time to climb the Grant Tower. Additionally, you can see the trebuchet and enjoy famous panoramic views.
Next, we pause in the picturesque village of Invermoriston. You can witness the beauty of the rushing river here. We will also walk across the historic Old Stone Bridge. Thomas Telford designed this famous bridge. Finally, we reach Fort Augustus at the southern tip of the loch. You can watch boats move through the five canal locks. These locks link the lochs of the Great Glen.
For your midday break, we escape the main tourist path. We enjoy a sophisticated lunch at the Invergarry Hotel. This historic hotel is a landmark of Highland hospitality. It offers a warm, oak-paneled atmosphere. You can also enjoy a refined menu of local Scottish food. Whether you try a Highland Single Malt or fresh local fare, you will find a peaceful sanctuary. It is the perfect place to refuel for the afternoon.
After lunch, the landscape changes quickly. We cross over to the Southern Shore. This is an area many tourists never see. First, we ascend into the hills. We stop at a quiet “wee loch” before reaching the Suidhe Viewpoint. This is one of the highest points on the route. It offers 360-degree vistas across the mountains and glens.
Our drive through the wild South Side includes several stops:
Whitebridge: See the 18th-century General Wade Bridge.
Falls of Foyers: Experience a 140ft waterfall in a deep gorge.
Finally, we conclude our loop at Dores Beach. This pebble stretch offers an unrivaled view down the 23-mile loch. It is the perfect spot for a final walk. After that, we take the short drive back to Inverness for a 17:15 PM return.
